Summer Academy Classes are developed to teach our students the basic components of technology. Throughout the development of these classes, we received input from Geek Squad Agents all over the globe. We are confident this will assure that no topic of interest goes untouched. Classes for this year’s Summer Academy are engaging fun and informative for students! PC Build and Internet Communications Classes will teach the basics of building a computer and using the Internet. These two classes will be offered at every Summer Academy site. In addition, Geek Squad and our local partners work closely to determine which optional classes will benefit the students of the local community. Do you cringe when tech support asks you to remove the side of your computer? Not the Jr. Agents who go through this class. In PC Basics, the Jr. Agents will build a computer from the ground up while understanding in simple terms what the role is of each computer component. From there, the Jr. Agent’s will learn vital hardware and software troubleshooting techniques so that the next time tech support wants you to remove the side of your computer, you can confidently call upon your Jr. Agent to assist you with the troubleshooting process.		If one thing is certain, it’s that technology has made communication much easier. Instantly, we can video chat, send pictures or instant message a friend or family member from anywhere in the world. Through our Internet Communications class, Jr. Agents will learn how to correctly operate web technology in order to correspond with friends and family no matter the miles between them. But don’t worry parents; the foundation for this class is understanding internet safety, security and ethics.
Enthusiastic about Mac? “Mac Head” and “OS X Junkie,” are terms that describe people who love using Apple computers. Geek Squad Agents will help familiarize the operating experience of Apple laptops, while learning the fun side of these computers with programs like Photo Booth and iTunes. Then, the Jr. Agents will learn about other Apple technologies like the iPod and Airport along with basic hardware and software troubleshooting techniques. After this class, the Jr. Agents will be proud to be called Apple Enthusiasts.		From musical zeros to guitar heroes! In this class Jr. Agents will use Apple’s Garage Band to create their own song. No musical experience is necessary because Garage Band has thousands of pre-recorded loops that the Jr. Agents will use to create their song. If your Jr. Agent does have musical experience, Agents will show them how to capture their vocal, piano, percussion or guitar talents to use in their musical creation. If you feel like rockin’, roll into Digital Music Class!
Camcorder functions are built into many different devices and websites like YouTube making sharing life’s moments easy and fast. During this class, Jr. Agents will learn how to capture video using everyday devices and the basics of framing scenes. From there, Jr. Agents will edit their footage on a computer and produce a short movie they can be proud of. Martin Scorsese will be amazed at what our Jr. Agents will come up with!		Red Eye Reduction, macro mode and manual focus are typical elements people face when using a digital camera. No need to fear the terminology anymore! Your Jr. Agent will learn the basics of taking great digital photos and what each of these functions do on a digital camera. Then, Jr. Agents will edit their photos on a computer creating digital masterpieces suitable for a museum (or fridge).
